The Bearhawk 4 is the ultimate heavy-hauling backcountry aircraft, delivering a rare and highly sought-after blend of short-field performance, great load carrying capacity, and a good cross-country cruise speed for a relatively small investment and low maintenance costs.

This aircraft solves the traditional utility dilemma. It steps completely away from sluggish cruise speeds typical of many dedicated backcountry planes, allowing you to cover long distances more quickly and efficiently. Built with a rugged, time-tested steel tube fuselage and high-efficiency aluminum wings, it handles the backcountry with absolute authority while maintaining stable, predictable manners in all phases of flight.

The Bearhawk 4 is all about operational flexibility.

With lots of cabin volume and a generous useful load, it can comfortably carry pilot/passengers, full fuel, and baggage, or easily adapt to transport bulky cargo to remote, unpaved strips. Whether you are navigating demanding mountain passes, operating out of tight backcountry strips, or cruising cross-country, the Bearhawk 4 provides a level of mission capability, structural toughness, and pure flying enjoyment that few other aircraft in its category can match. And, as preferred by many traditional pilots, the Bearhawk utilizes a stick instead of a yoke!

Bearhawk N828CB is currently owned by its builder who is also a professional pilot. After much deliberation, he has decided it's time to find a new home for the aircraft. His flying mission has changed from backcountry flying to long distance, high-performance cross-country flying.

Please carefully review the detailed, high resolution image gallery and walkaround video below. You'll see every inch of the aircraft. If you reach out to me, I can digitally share all logbooks and important documents.

Aircraft Evaluation

As the broker, I make a significant effort to represent an aircraft in as much detail as possible. I share with you not only the benefits and features I've discovered, but also the issues or concerns that I found during my extensive intake and deep logbook review process. I present dozens of detailed, high resolution images, and an extensive walkaround video. Please review this material in detail. Logbooks and other important documents are professionally scanned, well organized, and are available upon request for your review.

A broker's evaluation is never a substitute for an independent mechanic's pre-purchase inspection. Buyers are encouraged to hire their own mechanic to do a thorough inspection before completing a purchase.

Exterior - My initial impression, as I walked up to N828CB in the hangar, was that this is a solid, good looking Bearhawk that is a very capable backcountry taildragger. It looks well cared for, and while it has seen a fair amount of Arizona backcountry, this revered Bearhawk sure doesn't look like it's been worked too hard.

One great design feature of the Bearhawk is that even though the fuselage is tube and fabric, the aircraft has a significant portion of its surface clad in aluminum. Aluminum skin is found not only in the area aft of the engine cowling and firewall, but also on the doors and on the top and bottom of the wings.

During the walkaround, I did not see any issues with any fabric or aluminum. The paint looks nice. With the exception of a couple very minor abrasions here and there, there are no paint issues to speak of. The 31" Alaskan Bushwheels look to be in good condition and have plenty of life left in them. The Hartzell composite 3-blade prop is very clean, and really compliments the look of the aircraft. The windshield and side windows are in nice condition and do not exhibit any haze. This aircraft has been hangared since new, and babied by its builder/owner, so it was no surprise to find it in nice condition.

Please explore the extensive, high-resolution close-up image gallery below to verify the good overall exterior condition of this Bearhawk 4.

Instrument Panel - Bearhawk N828CB has a straightforward and very capable IFR glass panel. It utilizes top of the line Dynon touch screen displays which, frankly, are easier to use in light turbulence due to their soft key design along their bottom section. It has an integrated 3-axis autopilot and integrated Dynon com radio. Complete engine management is integrated in the PFD, as is traffic (ADS-B In) and weather. A late model Garmin GPS Navigator (WAAS) provides LPV approach capability. It even has a built-in carbon monoxide (CO) detector.

Please refer to the "Avionics and Equipment" list above for complete details of the avionics, and to the Image Gallery below for close-up images.

Interior - The spartan interior in this Bearhawk is rugged and in great condition. The two-tone leather seats are in great condition, as are the side panels and ceiling. The floor covering is a highly durable, rubberized coating which lends itself well not only to insulating from noise and vibration, but to easy clean up after an afternoon of flying in and out of backcountry strips.

Please review the high resolution images in the Image Gallery (below) for a detailed look at the interior condition.
