N5143S - main 1

Most General Aviation pilots agree that the Cessna 182 is the best overall airplane in the fleet.

There's not one aircraft that "does it all", but a Cessna 182 does most everything quite well and economically. Relative to the market, a 182 can be acquired for a reasonable price, it carries a respectable payload, it has a decent cruise speed, it can fly slowly when needed, and a 182 fits in as well at the local airport as it does at a smooth grass strip. This 182 RG, with its retractable gear, will outrun a fixed gear 182 all day long. This Skylane II is a great cross-country machine.

N5143S is a very low time 182 which has lived its most recent life in the dry desert of Arizona

Its basic, nearly original instrument panel allows the aircraft to be priced in a more affordable range, giving a buyer an opportunity to own one of the best single engine aircraft ever produced. While this Skylane is not currently certified for IFR, it has the equipment in place to allow it to be certified later on, should the next owner want to fly IFR.

Please carefully review the specs, the detailed high resolution image gallery, and the walkaround video below. A significant effort has been made to document the specifications and history of the aircraft. If you reach out to me, I can digitally share all logbooks and important documents.

Aircraft Evaluation

As the broker, I make a significant effort to represent an aircraft in as much detail as possible. I share with you not only the benefits and features I've discovered, but also the issues or concerns that I found during my extensive intake and deep logbook review process. I present dozens of detailed, high resolution images, and an extensive walkaround video. Please review this material in detail. All logbooks and other important documents are professionally scanned, well organized, and available for your review.

My goal is that any Buyer making the effort to look at an aircraft in person can first see the aircraft "virtually" on this web page.

Exterior - Overall, the exterior of this 182 RG is in nice condition. During the intake process, I did not see any significant damage or hangar rash. The most notable items I saw were:

(1) The paint appears to have reasonable depth but could use some TLC. I think it would look fantastic with some professional attention.
(2) There are some minor scrapes on the end caps of the elevator - cosmetic only. See detailed images.
(3) The leading edges of the wings exhibit minor dings, presumably from in-flight hail. And, the leading edges of the horizontal stabilizer have very minor dings, possibly from hail. I did not see any hail damage elsewhere on the aircraft.

The wing leading edges are easily replaced with a Sportsman STOL wing cuff, an inexpensive modification which adds a significant margin of safety to the aircraft. And, installing abrasion boots on the horizontal stab would not only make it look better, but would protect the surface. All in all, the appearance of this minor hail damage could easily be fixed.

The windows appear to be in reasonably good condition. The rear window has a light amount of haze but is very useable. Tires have good tread and don't show significant aging.

The Image Gallery (below) contains close-up, detailed, high resolution images so that you can get a great view of the aircraft exterior.

N5143S - short wide panel

Instrument Panel - The instrument panel is almost completely factory stock, with the exception of a nav/com radio upgrade. While the aircraft is not currently certified for IFR flight, it's believed that the aircraft has everything necessary for IFR flight with the exception of a 91.411 pitot/static test and cert.

Please refer to the "Avionics and Equipment" list above for complete details, and to the Image Gallery below for close-up images.

Interior - The interior is in good condition. I did not observe any tears, separation, or significant wear on the seat leather. The carpet shows only minimal wear. The headliner is tight, without damage, however it shows some dirt which likely could be easily cleaned up.

The backs of the front seats need a little attention, though. The retaining elastic on the pockets is stretched out, and the material on the pilot's seat back and headrest has separated (looks like something an interior guy could repair). Please look at the high resolution images in the Image Gallery for more details on the interior condition.

Overall - After spending a couple hours with this low hour Cessna 182 RG, I think it's a nice airplane that could just use a little bit of cosmetic TLC. While the instrument panel hasn't been updated, it is in nice condition and would be enjoyed by most any pilot who is looking for a strong, high useful load, fast single-engine piston aircraft.

Please reach out to me so that I may answer any questions you have.
