Piper/Cubcrafters
PA-18 Super Cub
N821PC
180 hp, low time, stunning beauty
$XXX,000Â USD
The Super Cub is one of the best platforms ever developed in aviation.
Whether you're tootling around the country, landing on grass and asphalt, or tackling the extreme backcountry, a Super Cub has been the pilot's choice for many decades. Its simplicity, both mechanically and operationally, has won hearts since its inception.
Take your average Super Cub, place it in the hands of Cubcrafters founder Jim Richmond, and you'll get a significantly upgraded and better aircraft. This PA-18 Super Cub, N821PC, was rebuilt, ground up, by Jim and his early team in 1994. The only evidence of the original aircraft that I see is the data plate. Even the fuselage was completely replaced.
This Super Cub helped Cubcrafters get its start in the aviation world.
Cubcrafters liked this airplane so much that shortly after its renaissance, it was the star of the show in their display at EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh. See pictures of that display in the Image Gallery below. Legendary aviation writer Budd Davisson also used this aircraft in a leading article he wrote for Plane and Pilot in 2001. People can't get enough of this special airplane when they are around it.
This 180 hp Super Cub has been cared for by its loving owner since the moment Jim Richmond delivered it to him. Even to this day, the airplane looks nearly like a flying museum aircraft - you'll be hard pressed to find any cosmetic flaws on it. It's been hangared since its rebirth, and has lived exclusively in sunny, dry Phoenix, Arizona. The owner delights in keeping the aircraft proactively updated and in excellent condition. Anyone would struggle to find a cleaner PA-18 than this one.
Please carefully review the detailed, high resolution image gallery and lengthy walkaround video below. You'll see every inch of the aircraft. If you reach out to me, I can digitally share all logbooks and important documents.

Aircraft Evaluation
As the broker, I make a significant effort to represent an aircraft up front in as much detail as possible. I share with you not only the benefits and features I've discovered, but also the issues or concerns that I found during my extensive intake and deep logbook review process. I present well over 100 detailed, high resolution images, in some cases noting directly on the image a potential issue which caught my attention. Please review all images in detail. All logbooks and other important documents are professionally scanned, well organized, and readily available on the cloud for your review.
My goal is that any Buyer making the effort to look at an aircraft in person can first see the aircraft "virtually" on this web page and through video. This helps the Buyer avoid surprises when they arrive to view the aircraft in person. |
Exterior - This is one of the cleanest exteriors I've seen on an aircraft in a long time - it looks nearly factory new. During my intake inspection and photo session, I struggled to find anything wrong on this Super Cub. The paint shows significant depth and shine, it's ready to win some awards.
If you want to nitpick things, there is one very minor paint chip on the underside of the right wingtip, and another extremely minor paint chip on the top/right side of the empennage, next to a panel. As I wrapped up my inspection, the owner commented "I think I may want to replace the Super Cub emblem on the tail, it looks a little faded". Honestly, I think it looks great!
Please review the detailed, high resolution images in the Image Gallery below - if you look carefully, you'll see these nitpick items I'm talking about.
Instrument Panel - The panel is representative of basic state-of-the-art for the mid-90s, when it was rebuilt by Cubcrafters. The squared panel is a leap forward from the rounded panel offered by Piper back in the day. The Garmin GNS430, despite having a VFR-only GPS, offers a modern touch to the instrumentation. This panel features some unusual but highly useful features such as a "chip detector" (detects metal flecks in the oil) and a "water detector" (detects the presence of water in the carb bowl). These features were added by Cubcrafters. The left wing root features a carb temp gauge which is useful in avoiding carb ice.
Interior - The spartan interior is clean and looks typical for a well-maintained Super Cub. Please review the Image Gallery below, it contains high-resolution, detailed images of the interior. The front seat's seatback can fold forward, making ingress and egress from the rear much easier. The front seat also features an inertial reel shoulder harness. Both seats have 4-point harnesses. The seat material and carpet show very little wear and look great.
Overall - While this PA-18 has the ability to be a backcountry mule, it's far too beautiful to beat up! This stunning Super Cub is no doubt one of the most aesthetically pleasing Cubs in existence. Its upgraded 180 horsepower Lycoming O-360 provides significantly more power than it had from the factory, making it a great performer. All this airplane needs is an owner who wants to explore the country and fly it a lot!
