2001 Aviat Husky A-1B
N161AM
Beautiful, rugged, backcountry bird
$179,500 USD

Aviat Husky aircraft are amongst the most popular workhorses in the Alaskan backcountry and are also the aircraft of choice for top STOL competition pilots. They fly so nicely that they're also popular with those who simply enjoy exploring the local countryside. Here's an opportunity to get into a clean Husky A-1B that has lived nearly its entire life in the southwestern U.S.
This gorgeous, low-time, well equipped Husky A-1B with 26" tundra tires is turn-key and ready for its next adventure. Recent upgrades to the panel include an EDM900 Primary (engine management system), an Avidyne IFD440 WAAS GPS Navigator, and two uAvionix AV-30s which completely eliminated the original vacuum system.
You'll be challenged to find another Husky on the market, at this price, which is equipped this nicely, is this clean, and lives in dry Arizona.
Please carefully review the image gallery below. A significant effort has been made to show every angle and detail of the aircraft in high resolution imagery. Exterior - 9/10 This Husky A-1B is always hangared and has spent most of its life in the southwest U.S. The paint is in excellent condition and has a rich depth to its appearance. Plexiglas is in really good condition. The 26" Goodyear tundra tires are soft, pliable, and the tread depth indicators show they have lots of life left.
During my initial inspection of the aircraft, I observed no hangar rash. As I closely looked at the exterior during the walk-around, I had a difficult time finding any issues at all. The most I could find were two very minor nitpicks: a small, hardly noticeable dimple in the sheet aluminum located mid-cabin on the pilot's side exterior, and some minor scuffing on the top of the lower door which is likely due to ingress/egress. Both of these nitpicks are detailed in the images below.
Some minor accident damage has been properly and professionally repaired. The repairs resulted in a complete recovering of the wings, an overhauled prop, and a complete engine teardown (IRAN) by a reputable engine shop, Corona Engines, out of California. There is some comfort for the next owner, knowing that the engine has been recently "gone through" by a professional engine shop and given a perfect bill of health. The engine shop work is detailed in documents which are digitally available for your inspection.
Overall, the exterior is in great condition. The aircraft has lots of ramp appeal!
Panel - 8.5/10 The VFR panel is clean and has been significantly upgraded. Primary instruments are glass, utilizing AV-30s and JPI's most current engine management system, the EDM900 Primary. The GPS Navigator has also been updated to Avidyne's current 4-series FMS/GPS/NAV/COM unit, the IFD440. That unit contains a WAAS GPS to which an iPad can connect using WiFi or Bluetooth.

Interior - 8.5/10 The original interior does not show its age. The dark-gray, denim-like, rugged upholstery is in good condition. The carpet is also in good condition. The headliner is in good condition, and there are no noticeable scuffs or issues. Overall, the interior does not show much wear. One terrific feature is the extra storage space found behind the aft bulkhead. This storage area is accessed from the outside (port-side) of the aircraft. This space is a great way to store bulky, light items such as bedding and bulky clothing - it's perfect for backcountry camping. The image gallery, below, has detailed pictures of this storage space.
Overall - N161AM is a well maintained, beautifully rugged, backcountry and STOL-capable aircraft that is flown regularly by its owner. With such low hours and excellent maintenance history, this Husky A-1B is ready for immediate service in the backcountry, and is also a fantastic platform for exploring the countryside. The next owner of this beautiful aircraft will not be burdened with having to upgrade any avionics, since the current owner has already brought the entire panel up to date.
